![]() ![]() ![]() There's plenty to enjoy on Mackinac Island which centuries ago was the "fur" trading capital of North America along with many types of accommodations from dormitories to the fabulous classic award winning Grand Hotel on the hilltop overlook the Straits of Mackinaw. Every year, over 500,000 people visit this geological landmark accounting for many of the tourists who visit Mackinac Island. Climbing the rock formations isn't recommended for safety reasons. It stands 146 feet above Lake Huron, which is nearly 15 stories tall and is more than 50 feet wide. The most famous of the rock formations on the island, this arch towers above the water and is more than fifty feet wide. The paths are excellent for jogging and cardiac workouts as well. The scenic bicycle paths around the edge of the island are fully paved and mostly flat along the lakeshore. Motorized transport on Mackinac Island is highly restricted during the summer season. Even in October, this place was very crowdy. Arch Rock Mackinac Island rests on the southeast part of the island. ![]() There is a platform situated above the rock with the great view of the lake. The Location of Arch Rock on Mackinac Island. If you riding a bike, it’s not far from the main entrance of the Fort Mackinac (about 10 minutes of riding). To get to the Arch Rock scenic destination Mackinac Island has convenient carriage tours from the downtown harbor ship docks as well as bicycle trails. The arc is located near east shore of the Mackinac Island. The view in the photos shows the waters of Lake Huron. The winters can be very cold, icy and snowy and over time the ice expands, contracts and weakens the natural rock formation.
